Prenatal Visit
Why it is important to start lactation care prenatally
Helps you know what to expect
In a prenatal session, my goal is to teach you everything you could expect so there are no surprises once baby gets here. I want you to be well equipped so you can advocate for yourself and troubleshoot if any challenges arise.
Planning and Preparation
During our visit, we can establish your goals for breastfeeding, and form a course on how best we will achieve those. I take an individualized approach as no one’s pregnancy or baby are the same. Lactation and breastfeeding information can be overwhelming, especially after the birth of your baby when you are sleep deprived and hormones are shifting. That’s why it is best to start learning beforehand.
Learning basic skills
Become familiar with the skills and terms you will encounter when your baby arrives. Learn about the importance of skin to skin in the first hour after birth and how to attempt a good latch. Learn the basics of milk production, hand expression, and how to get your milk supply off to a good start.
