Postpartum Visit
Baby has arrived! What to expect when you book a postpartum lactation visit
Assessment of Latch and Positioning
Here I can hands-on assist you with proper positioning and getting a good, deep latch without any pain. Latching deeply is the number one way to ensure good milk transfer, fully emptying of the breasts, increasing milk supply, and preventing sore nipples, plugged ducts, and mastitis.
Weighted Feeds
Weighing your baby is the only way we can measure that they are getting enough to eat at the breast. All babies lose some weight after birth, and we want them to regain that weight by 2 weeks, then continue to gain weight beyond. Pre- and post-feed weights tell us exactly how much milk your baby transfers at the breast during a feeding in milliliters or ounces, and this is only done by a lactation consultant.
Formation of a personalized feeding plan
Every mother-baby dyad is different and have different goals or challenges they face. Breastfeeding is “natural” but it is not always easy. And it’s not a one fits all process. What worked for your friends or family might not work for you. That’s why I work with you to form an individualized feeding plan the fits your exact needs and we will get you there!
Milk Supply Adjustments
Milk production is a supply and demand process. The more your baby is feeding and emptying the breast, the more milk your body knows to produce. Sometimes we run into low milk supply, oversupply, or even uneven supply and can take steps to improve this.
